The Situation

The Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC) at Fort Polk, Louisiana is one of the Army’s premier Combat Training Centers, conducting brigade-level rotational training exercises that prepare units for worldwide deployment. JRTC operates a complex, multi-domain training environment integrating live-fire ranges, maneuver areas, instrumented training systems, and realistic operational scenarios that test every element of a brigade combat team’s readiness before deployment.

Sustaining the JRTC training mission requires a comprehensive support infrastructure spanning range control operations, training event execution, range systems and instrumentation, infrastructure maintenance, and logistics and life support across the installation’s extensive training complex. The scale and tempo of continuous rotational exercises demand 24-hour operational support during training rotations, centralized range scheduling and deconfliction, and the ability to simultaneously manage live-fire, maneuver, and simulation environments.

Our Approach

GTS provides training support services at Fort Polk as a subcontractor on the JRTC Training Support Services contract (W911S8-24-C-0004), delivering personnel, equipment, and technical services that sustain range control and training support operations for the Joint Readiness Training Center.

Range Control Operations form the core of GTS’s contribution to the JRTC mission. GTS personnel support the scheduling and coordination of training ranges, control of live-fire and maneuver areas, deconfliction of simultaneous training events across multiple units, and enforcement of range safety regulations. These functions are essential during brigade-scale exercises where multiple battalions operate across overlapping training areas with live ammunition, requiring precise coordination to maintain safety while maximizing training realism.

Training Event Execution Support covers direct operational assistance to Rotational Training Units (RTUs) during brigade, battalion, and joint exercises. GTS personnel maintain continuous operational tempo during active rotations, supporting the training cycle from reception and staging through force-on-force execution and after-action review. Surge periods during rotation windows require sustained 24-hour support across range operations, communications, and safety functions.

Range Systems and Infrastructure support includes operation of instrumented training ranges, target systems, and data capture equipment that feeds the after-action review process. GTS personnel sustain range equipment, target system repairs, communications systems, and power and environmental support systems that keep the training complex operational between and during rotational exercises.

All GTS personnel operate within the JRTC operational framework, coordinating with the prime contractor and government training cadre to ensure seamless integration of range control, safety, and support functions into each rotational exercise cycle.

The Results

GTS delivers consistent range control and training support performance across JRTC rotational exercise cycles, maintaining range availability, safety compliance, and operational continuity during high-tempo brigade-level training events. All performance standards are met within the JRTC quality assurance framework.

This engagement demonstrates GTS’s capacity to operate within one of the Army’s highest-tempo training environments, where range control decisions directly affect the safety and training outcomes of thousands of soldiers during each rotational exercise. The requirement for personnel experienced in live-fire range operations, training event deconfliction, instrumented range systems, and 24-hour operational support during surge periods reflects the depth of GTS’s training support services practice within the Combat Training Center enterprise.
